Trustee Board



In 2010 the Union set up its first ever charity-law compliant trustee board, in line with our application for charity status with the UK Charities Commission. A trustee board is designed as a tool of governance, to bring both internal knowledge and external experience together to provide an overarching body which can consult and assist the Union’s management, and to make decisions at a strategic level.

The members of the Union’s Trustee Board are:

Chair

Joe Levell

Joe is the Finance Officer of the Union and chairs both the Trustee Board and the Management Committee. He sits as a chairman and director respectively of the Union’s subsidiary companies and is responsible for allocation and oversight of the Union’s resources. He is also a trustee of the University of East Anglia. Joe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History with English History.

Student Officer Trustee

Sam Clark

Sam is the Community and Student Rights Officer for the Union. He sits as a director on both of the Union’s subsidiary companies and is responsible for representing Students’ views on welfare and the Union’s position in relation to the Community. He is also a Senator of the University of East Anglia. Sam holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Literature with English Literature.

Josh Bowker

Josh is the Academic Officer of the Union, and represents the Union’s members in matters relating to their education at UEA. Josh sits as a director on both of the Union’s subsidiary companies. Josh is also a Senator of the University of East Anglia. Josh holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Technology.

Matthew Myles

Matthew is the Communications Officer of the Union. He is responsible for the democratic processes of the organisation and ensuring that members are communicated to on all issues which affect them as students. Matthew sits as chairman and director respectively of the Union’s two subsidiary companies, and is also a trustee of the University of East Anglia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature.

Student Officer Trustee

Jessica Lewis

Jessica is a part time non-portfolio student officer.  Jessica holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and is currently a postgraduate student studying Philosophy. Jessica sits on the Student Officer Committee.

Bintu Foday

Bintu is a part time non-portfolio student officer.  Bintu is currently studying for an undergraduate degree in the Norwich Business School. Bintu sits on the Student Officer Committee.

Lay Student Trustee

Ben Dougan

Ben is a lay student trustee. He is studying towards a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of East Anglia.

Georgina Dods

Georgina is a lay student trustee. She is studying towards a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of East Anglia.

Jessica Freeman

Jessica is a lay student trustee. She is studying towards a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of East Anglia.

Ben Tatum

Ben is a lay student trustee. He is studying towards a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of East Anglia.

External Trustee

Andrew Wood

Andrew is a graduate (EAS 1970) of UEA, a past council member and former solicitor for the Union (1977-1989), now an External Trustee. His is an employed consultant with Birketts LLP solicitors, Norwich. He specialises in company and commercial matters. Andrew is a solicitor at Birketts LLP. He has a wide range of legal experience, including advising during the setup of the Union’s subsidiary companies. Andrew is co-Deputy Chair of Trustees.

Tom Flynn

Tom graduated from UEA in 2005 in Economics and Economics. He holds a masters degree in PPE from UEA and a doctorate in Political Science from the University of York. Tom was for two years Principal Officer of the Graduate Students' Union at York. He is a marketing and communications specialist in the HE sector, currently working in PGR recruitment at the University of Warwick. Tom is co-Deputy Chair of Trustees.

Peter Roy

Peter graduated from Liverpool University in 1993 in Business Economics. Peter is an enthusiastic entrepreneur and successful sales and marketing professional with 15 years experience. Peter is a director of Peter Roy Associates, a Business Development, Marketing and Communications Consultancy.

Sarah Shirtclifff

Sarah holds a HND from Northumbria University, a Post-graduate diploma in Personnel Management from Middlesex University and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management. Sarah is currently on sabbatical from Aviva PLC where she has held several senior positions in human resources, most recently as HR Business Partner to Aviva Uk's Chief Information Officer.
