2pm - Final Update on Network Problems.

Earlier today we emailed and messaged students to invite comments about their experience this week, and asked the University to extend all deadlines until the 20th January.

Since then, we’ve received a large amount of comments and feedback from students angered or upset about the current set of deadlines, and have sought to relay these messages to the University.

However, the four faculties, and the University centrally, have decided that they will not be extending deadlines beyond those published earlier, which are all still available on our website at http://www.ueastudent.com/news/view/51.

Faculties have outlined the following reasons for not extending deadlines any further:

  • That a significant volume of coursework is already due to be submitted at the beginning of next semester, and that adding to this would limit the faculty’s ability to manage the return of coursework.
  • That they wanted to provide timely, accurate feedback to students on their work- and that submitting this work after Christmas would impede this.

We’re still aware that students are upset by the situation, and we still want to hear from you: please email any comments to Rachel, the Academic Officer, on [email protected]. Over the coming days we’ll be putting together a report to the University about the situation, drawing on students’ feedback, which will be available on ueastudent.com.

Schools across the University are also willing to hear from individual students who still have concerns about deadlines- they can go into their teaching office in person, or contact them via the website:

http://www.uea.ac.uk/hum for HUM students

http://www.uea.ac.uk/sci for SCI students

http://www.foh.uea.ac.uk/ for FOH students and

http://www.uea.ac.uk/ssf for SSF students.

The Union is pleased that schools are dealing with students’ concerns on a one-to-one basis, and encourage students to use this route.

If you still feel that your work has been adversely affected by the network problems, please don’t hesitate the contact the Union’s independent Advice Centre, at advice, on (01603) 59 3463, or in person or the Academic Officer [email protected].
