Union of UEA Students' is appalled by the Browne Report

Union of UEA Students' is appalled by the Browne Report

The Union of UEA Students is encouraging all of Simon Wright’s constituents to contact him and let him know of their disgust at the proposals in the Browne Report. The removal of the cap paves the way for limitless tuition fees and vast amounts of debt for students.

Students at UEA who lent their votes to Simon Wright, the newly elected Liberal Democrat of Norwich South, placed their trust in this candidate because of his stance on tuition fees, and we sincerely hope that he honours his pledge to vote against any rise in fees.

As a Students’ Union we maintain a policy of free education. We believe that education is a right not a privilege. Lord Browne’s recommendations, if put in place, will result in students graduating with an astronomical amount of debt which will take decades for them to pay off.

Alarmingly, the increase in fees combined with the cuts to higher education could mean a decline in the standard of education universities can provide. Browne’s suggestion that students should pay so much more for less, is an unacceptable offer.
